Moving Students Into Tomorrow with Technology in Mathematics

Help me give my students Logitech digital pencils to complete their mathematics work digitally on their iPads. This way, they do not have to use their fingers to complete their work digitally.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in the City of Buffalo. They are students in grades 2-4 who are just below grade level in Mathematics, and are working with me to increase their understanding in math to get them on grade level. Many of them come from homes with low incomes and very little access to technology. This year, my students are using apps like Office 365 and Nearpod to access our mathematics curriculum.

My students love to explore mathematics, discuss their strategies, and show pride in their work.

I have girls and boys from many different backgrounds, countries, who speak a variety of languages and bring wonderful things to the classroom.

My Project

My students use their iPads in my classroom daily to complete math problems digitally using Office 365.

They are currently using their fingers to draw their pictures on their iPads, show their work, and complete their problems, but with these crayons, they will be able to write just like they were writing on a piece of paper.

Their work will then take up less space, be neater, and be able to share their work easily and without using paper. It is an environmentally friendly process and gives students experience working with technology which they can carry into high school and beyond.
