This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a high poverty school and is located in a community in southwestern Arizona with a close proximity to Mexico and California. Our 1st grade classroom is a diverse English Language Learner self-contained classroom with thirty-four students varying different language proficiency levels. These students come from low income families, the majority of them being migrant and agricultural workers. Many of my parents are struggling to provide for children's basic needs. Additionally, my students exhibit great willingness to learn and are striving to meet their goals. Nonetheless, they are quick learners and are acquiring English as their second language and dream big. They are my inspiration and keep my passion to teach on fire!

My Project

The cardstock paper is a long-lasting classroom favorite used for premade learning templates that are inserted in the heavy-duty sheet protectors. Sheet protectors are used as students' personal dry erase boards during whole group and small group instruction where students use dry erase markers to show their work as they learn and practice concepts in all subject areas. We need these heavyweight durable sheet protectors so that erasing and maintenance will be easy for 1st graders. Templates include letter formation, number bonds, Elkonin boxes, among many others that are suitable for our daily learning routines. The cardstock templates and sheet protectors are an efficient productive way to transition between content areas while learning is taking place. The laminating pouches are also great in making resources durable and long lasting.

The STEM resources such as the building blocks and bricks would allow students to think and build like engineers and expand their imagination and most importantly build on their problem-solving skills.

The plastic containers will serve as storage bins for STEM kits and the cart for them to be transported with ease. The printer and ink would allow students to publish their writing, designs in color, and to research STEM resources such as pictures and be able to print them in color as well.

Additionally, this project includes composition notebooks. These notebooks will be used as a writing portfolio to progress monitor and assess students' writing goals. The flip chart markers will assist in the prewriting process with the creation of writing anchor charts. Furthermore, the wireless PA system will serve as the means to share in the collaboration process and increase students' public speaking skills.
