Moving on Up: New Science and Social Studies Classroom Supplies
My students need a variety of books that will help them to be successful in a fourth grade Science and Social Studies class, as well as items to create a more welcoming classroom environment such as a rug.
My students make up the fourth grade population at my Title I, high-poverty school. Despite the fact that almost 90% of the students in my school are from low income families, my classes are made up of an amazing group of children who love to learn. They are inquisitive, creative, and very enthusiastic. They love learning and new experiences.
A lot of excitement is in store for my class next year -- I will be teaching Science and Social Studies to all fourth grade students.
I have taught third grade for my first five years of teaching, and this is my first time changing grades. I will be moving up to fourth grade with the amazing third graders I have now. I can't wait to watch them grow next year with the help of this project.
My Project
This project will help me to have the supplies I need to set up a new Science and Social Studies classroom, as well as provide a rich library of content related texts. Moving grades is a challenge in and of itself, but the items I am requesting, such as globes, a new rug, and organization supplies will help to make that a smoother transition. These items will also help to create an atmosphere in my classroom that reflects the subjects that will be taught.
We need new books that reflect the new material I will be teaching in fourth grade Science and Social Studies.
I am asking for a variety of engaging texts that relate to Weather, Astronomy, the American Revolution, the Civil War, and much more. They will be used as read-alouds and for students to browse when they have extra time to read. These books will help students make connections to the new subjects they are learning, and they will help keep them interested.
