My students are unique and hardworking. They are active and mobile third graders, and do not like sitting down at their seats for long periods of times. They like to stand up or sit on the floor, on their desks, on the carpet, etc. Third grade is a crucial year because we are transitioning from primary grades to intermediate work and it is challenging for us!
My goal to provide an atmosphere in my classroom where all movement and energy is welcomed instead of it being looked as a misbehavior.
My Project
You have probably heard of flexible seating already. Kids may walk in the room and see a bunch of interesting seating options, and have no idea that in reality those options will help them meet their learning needs. Flexible seating provides students with different seating options; whether it is standing up, seating on the floor, or seating on a wobble chair. The main purpose is to allow learners, like myself, get all their wiggles out, while learning at the same time.
Sometimes it is easy to forget that we are teaching children.
They are eight and nine years old, and it is silly to expect them to sit still all day. It can be hard to learn when all you want to do is move around- Even adults like to work in a comfortable spot!
Right now, my students have to work at their desk most of the day. I do not have many sitting options except the floor or their standard chair and desk; that is why I am asking for wobble chairs that will allow my students get their wiggles out as they do their work.
This is the start of my flexible seating plan. I want to be able to provide my students with the best learning environment, and with your help I will be able to do so!
Bye, standard seating! HELLO, kid-friendly classroom.
