Help me give my students a “centers” based math learning environment with flexible seating options that will encourage independence, accountability, cooperative learning, and creativity.
First-grade students attending our school in the VERY small town of Lumberton in south Mississippi are full of curiosity about the world beyond their city limit sign. The energy and excitement they possess are so encouraging. My students unknowingly seek a safe, loving, understanding, and inspiring environment to prepare them to be all that they could ever want to be! My hope is to stir the dreams that have yet to dream and give them all of the tools that they need to continue to grow and dream their big dreams.
My Project
In first grade, we are BUSY; busy learning, busy moving, and busy growing! In our math classroom, we want to create a center's based learning environment where students are accountable for their progress and learning opportunities through creative individual and group learning centers but are also allowed the opportunity to incorporate comfort through the use of flexible seating options. The use of flexible seating will encourage them to stay on task while working in their assigned centers and enhance their focus. The seating options will be exciting to the students and serve as an incentive to work hard, do their best, and have fun while learning!!!
