My students need options (portable lap desks) for work centers in the classroom. The majority of my students need these options of areas to work due to behaviors and the need to feel in control.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a unique group and keep me laughing most of the day. I can have up to 16 students in my self-contained, special education classroom (Language Learning Disabilities/LLD). Currently, I have 10 students consisting of 2 girls and 8 boys.
Many of the students that I have receive related services such as occupational and speech therapy, as well as behavior related counseling.
I work very hard with my students throughout the school year to make the accommodations and modifications necessary to see them progress and do their best.
My Project
Having these portable lap desks for my students would assist tremendously with behaviors in the classroom. So many of my students want to feel in control of their assignments and giving them options is necessary. For example, many of my students already choose to lay on pillows, bean bag chairs, ottomans, etc. during quiet reading time. Having lap desk stations like this will allow them to appropriately and safely use a computer or write while still being able to pick a better spot to complete their work. I always tell my students that as long as their task is being completed nicely, it is up to them where they sit.
