My students need Wobble chairs and Bouncy Chairs to address flexible seating needs and an Echo Dot to supplement and spice up all the awesome learning and grooving going on in our classroom!
I am a third grade teacher and teach math and science/social studies. My campus is a Title I school, meaning the student body has a high population of low socioeconomic students. Several of my students receive food bags for the weekends. Despite these challenges, the love of learning and close classroom community are our focus!
Several of these children face very limited resources at home.
I want to strive to create the most nurturing, engaging classroom atmosphere that I can for them!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Some studies suggest giving students choices about their physical classroom space teaches them higher-order thinking skills. Students have different needs when it comes to focusing while they learn and work alone or with one another. In our classroom, the student will have the choice of the wobble stools and bouncy chairs during the learning application (the portion of the learning cycle where they apply the new skill they just learned) and the independent portion (where they practice on their own). The bouncy ball seats will often be used when I pull small groups/intervention, allowing the students some extra movement during this special time! The Echo Dot will be a FUN and useful tool to supplement our learning from day to day! From setting a timer, learning science facts or playing music for high-yield learning strategies, the Dot will be a huge addition to our classroom!!
Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment - funding this project will give my students this opportunity!
I have slowly started transitioning my classroom into a choice-oriented learning environment. This project will help me get closer to this goal!
