First graders will begin bringing their own devices to school to participate in different technology such as reading a book from your device or practicing math fluency using a particular application. I want my students to thrive with technology.
My students are hungry for learning.
They are diverse and come from many parts of the world. I would say we are a class of "Global Learners." My school is a high poverty school, where students are dreaming big and teachers are striving to keep students moving forward to become global learners and to move our world into the next century.
My Project
My students will use their iPad minis to read books during guided reading or during free time. They will also use applications to help them to become proficient in math fluency. Later in the year, the students will use the iPad minis as a research tool to learn about animals using apps such as Pebble-go.
Reading is a valuable part of learning and teachers have to use every possible resource available to entice students to want to read. Students who read on grade level by third grade have an 80% chance of graduating high school. I want all of my students to have an academic career that leads them into the next part of their lives.
Math and research is mandatory to moving forward and it starts in first grade. These devices will help get my students on their way to learning with technology. The cases and warranties will help protect the iPad minis.
This year is the beginning of bring your own device in first grade.
I want my students to have the same opportunity as more fortunate students. I want my students to be competitive using technology and these iPads can help me help my students begin learning and using iPads as a learning tool.
