Moving During Math Is a Must!

Help me give my students the ability to move while learning! All core learning happens in the morning with my 5th graders not getting a real moving break until their recess at 12:15 pm.

My Students

Deer River is located in north central Minnesota next to the Leech Lake Indian Reservation and the Chippewa National Forest. K. Elementary serves approximately 500 students in grades preschool through grade 5.

Close to 40% of students at King Elementary are of American Indian descent.

Approximately 70% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, which reflects the level of poverty in the surrounding community. Due to this poverty level in Deer River, K. Elementary qualifies for School-wide Title I assistance.

My Project

My students are very active. They love to move, but they also need to learn! Adding these bands to my classroom will help them to be able to get their wiggles out while still paying attention to what we are working on in class!

I have a great group of kids that need more movement time, these bands will help my students get that AND math at the same time!

In 5th grade we do all core academics in the morning. Our students have lunch at 11:50 and then head to recess at 12:15pm. Which mean they work hard for over 3 hours before getting a meaningful moving break!
