My energetic third graders come to school eager to learn each and every day. Our elementary school sits in an inner city district and is a Title 1 school. My students come from a variety of social and economical backgrounds. The students all have one thing in common: they all want to succeed in third grade and become lifelong learners!
My students want and need to take control of their learning in a comfortable classroom space.
In an increasingly stimulating world, my students are eager to participate in learning activities that capture their attention in new and exciting ways. Allowing students the freedom to move around the classroom helps promote engagement in their learning.
My Project
My students need to MOVE! Students have a long day at school, and they find it difficult to stay in their seats or in one spot in the classroom for long periods of time. Whenever possible, they opt for alternative seating around the room, such as balance ball chairs, hokki stools, beanbag chairs, or simply lying on the floor. Given the option to move freely around the room allows for students to find a comfortable place to focus and work.
These resources will allow my students to have more flexibility in their work spaces in the classroom.
My students will be able to move and work throughout the room using the lap desks to hold their papers or Chromebooks. The dry erase clipboards will be a quick way for me to assess the students' understanding to a question and allow the students to save time with paper and a pencil. They can also clip papers to the boards when completing assignments on paper. Having a class set of mailboxes will help to eliminate the need for standard classroom desks as we move towards transforming our classroom into fully flexible seating. These materials will surely put a smile on my students' faces as they are able to balance their need to move with their desire to work with each other and dig deeper into their learning!
