My students need flexible seating in the classroom to help them learn. Our class would love to have the LuxFit Exercise Ball Chairs, the Bouncy bands, yoga mats, lap desks, Inflatable Chairs, and stadium seats.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love my students because even though the odds are stacked against them, they never give up. I work at a Title I school in the worst area code, economically, in Tennessee. My kids not only have major financial issues, they also have a lot of issues as far as ADHD and other mental/health issues. Even though most people count them out because of where they live and how they are able to learn, I never give up on them because they never give up on themselves. They inspire me more than they will ever know. I want to make their learning environment as comfortable as I can. I want to make school a place they can learn, be comfortable, and be successful because they do not get that home.
My Project
Flexible seating is scientifically proven to help students with issues such as Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, learn better. ADHD is a chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. More than 80% of my students have ADHD. It is difficult for my students to sit still, especially with going to classes all day sitting in the same regular desks.
The LuxFit Exercise Ball Chair, bouncy bands for their desk, yoga mats, and stadium seats would help combat their ADHD and allow them to learn comfortably.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The equipment would allow them to learn on their terms without having to act out or get restless because they are uncomfortable. When they start their assignments they will get to choose where they want to learn and do their assignments. It not only benefits them mentally but it also helps them gain a piece of independence. Students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work and are comfortable working.
As of right now, the students only have two options of where to do their work. They have the choice of sitting at a regular desk or sitting on the floor. Making them comfortable will allow them to combat their disorder and give them the motivation to learn.
