My group of kindergartners are full of life and energy! Each day brings a new adventure of exploring, growing, and learning together. They are always eager to learn and try new things. Their excitement for learning is a true inspiration and a constant reminder of why I have the best job!
We love to move and stay active throughout the day.
My students learn best when they are given the opportunity to choose different seating options. They thrive on the independence and freedom of choice that flexible seating lends to them.
My Project
We have been using flexible (or alternative) seating in our kindergarten classroom all year. Flexible seating is an alternative way for students to learn. It gives students the freedom to find comfortable spaces around the room to work. They might be sitting, laying on the floor, bouncing on a ball chair, or rocking in scoop rockers. There are many possibilities of what this can look like. Using flexible seating has helped meet the needs of the diverse learners in our classroom.Research shows that students are able to focus and do their best work when they are comfortable and have choices.
Providing a variety of seating options for my students will help enhance their focus and keep them engaged in their learning throughout the day.
As many of you know, the cost of these different seating options begin to add up quickly. My kindergarten class and I would like to ask for your help with donations. We would love to have additional seating option to give students more flexibility to choose which type of seating works best for them. My students were so excited about this project. They love the idea of having more options for our classroom! When I asked my students how it would make them feel if the project was funded and we were able to purchase the wobbly stools, they stated:
"It would make me feel happy!"
"It would be great, everyone would get a chance to sit on them."
