Moving and Learning (Even When We're Six Feet Apart)

Help me give my students an opportunity to move with these wobble stools. Students have to stay in their seats six feet apart most of our school days. These stools will allow them to do some moving!

My Students

All of my students live in a small town in central Wyoming. We live in a rural area, but are fortunate to have one of the larger cities in Wyoming just 20 miles away. Many of our students' parents work in the oil and coal industries. Within the last few years, times for those families have gotten difficult with a serious decline in those industries.

I always look forward to the start of a new school year, and this year is no exception!

I love meeting new students and getting to know them! This year, of course, because of Covid 19, is going to present new challenges, and I am trying to think outside the box to create great learning experiences for my students, even six feet apart!

My Project

Our classroom is set up so that all of our desks are six feet apart, allowing students to spend most of their day without masks. That presents challenges. We ususally do a lot more moving around the classroom. We move to the carpet or in small groups at the table. Students have always been able to sit in small groups so they can turn to a partner and share their learning and ideas.

Because we aren't able to do that kind of moving this year, I would love to be able to allow students to use these wobble stools to wobble around, even as they sit six feet apart.

Sitting in one place for an extended period of time is difficult for these little bodies!
