This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a diverse inclusive classroom of low-income students aged 3 to 5. For most of my students, this is their first learning experience. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. We are located in the inner city of Pittsburgh and provide a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and support each child as we prepare them to transition to kindergarten.
My students are very interested in learning about letters, math, social studies, engineering and science, and enjoy exploring with technology.
They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners and love to discover new things about the world around them. Despite the challenges they face they come to school each day ready to work and play with smiles and positive attitudes.
My Project
Music is an important part of learning. Through music we are able to move and learn about personal space as well as dancing and learning about the beat and different types of music. My students also enjoy listening to stories on CD. The CD player we have had for 10 years died and my students need a new CD player to continue listening and moving to music.
By implementing music into our school day, it stimulates brain activity and also provides my students with an outlet to express themselves more openly.
With music they also have more opportunity to release tension and awaken their bodies. When important content is taught through music and movement, children are more likely to remember it. Acquiring this new music player will help me to better engage my students in learning through dance and music. It will also allow my students the opportunity to get up and move around and to openly express themselves.
Our new curriculum has books online and the Bluetooth speaker will allow us to listen to these stories on the IPad. The cover for our IPad is broken as is the charger cord that came with our IPad and we need a new one. This will help to protect our IPad and make sure it is taken care of and allow me to charge the IPad in the classroom instead of having to do it at home each night. Headphones will allow the students to listen to these stories independently and further their learning.
