I am a special education teacher. I have the amazing benefit of working with students of multiple abilities from throughout the entire school. My students are amazing and capable of doing anything.
My students thrive off of things that let them express their creativity in new and unique ways.
In all the turmoil right now my students will need a way to express their feelings and share positive and happy things with others. Supplies that will help them creatively express themselves will have immeasurable impacts on their learning this fall.
We are a low income school. We are located just outside of a joint military base. We serve a high number of students who have parents in the military. The social and emotional skills that are developed as well as the teamwork will benefit them greatly in the future.
My Project
My students daily work on social skills and SEL lessons. Both of these things play a pivotal role in the education now and in the future. When I have them I am setting the groundwork and teaching skills that they will need throughout the rest of their lives. What a better way to do this then to allow the students to create their own movies using Legos.
We have the blocks now we need the rest of the pieces to make our Lego Movies rock!
I need the Mako Toys baseplates to stage our actors and props like a real movie stage. You can't have a movie without backdrops and scenery. We will use our privacy folders to hang the hand drawn and colored backdrops. Which of course will be created with the Crayola markers and colored pencils I am asking for. There are so many amazing pieces in the Botanical Garden scenery set that will allow us to explore plants that we may not have here and set our stage in a different country or location. Finally all good rules of the classroom need to be followed just like on the road. This is why I need the road stickers and traffic signs.
These items make life a little easier for some hard working students.
