I teach Computer Applications in a high-need high school located in beautiful Tennessee.
Lights, _________, Action! That's right....camera is missing! How do you get students interested in Movie Making and Video Production with no camera? Our department was just informed that we are to start a Video Production Class similar to another school in our county. Sounds like a good idea, but when you have very little funds for the project and the students are not even sure what they will be doing in the class; it can make things kind of tricky.
So, I thought I would help get things started by having a little intro course in my Computer Applications class. Students are required to pass my class before taking the Video Production class. They would benefit by having a little experience in filming and be able to decide if they would like to take the Video Productions course the next semester. And, it would benefit their instructor with having students with a little filming experience. However, to get things started, we are in need of a video camera w/tripod, some headphone sets, and a couple of microphones for voice recordings and narrating. Students will be filming special events that happen on campus and the opportunity to have their work featured on the local cable community channel.
You could make it possible for my students to be introduced to video production skills early and give them an opportunity to see if this is something they may continue in college or just as a hobby.
