My students are always ready for an adventure. They arrive ready to dive into their task. My job is to provide these students from kindergarten through sixth grade with individualized instruction in reading and mathematics as listed in their individual education plans while presenting them with the same standards and learning opportunities as their general education peers. My students work within their specific grade levels and have the opportunity to move into other groups according to their needs and specific goals.
My students have many strengths, abilities and learning differences but each and every one of them comes with a thirst for learning and a yearning to be motivated to tackle challenging tasks.
At any point throughout the day, the students in my classroom can hail from kindergarten to third grade or second through sixth grade. It is my job to maintain organization, structure, and enthusiasm while guiding each student in their roles and responsibilities for each lesson.
My Project
My students learn best when provided with multiple opportunities to move and feel things. Providing them with flexible seating and concrete materials helps to sustain their attention and are valuable assets to my classroom.
Using a variety of "tools" to enhance my students' ability to concentrate is key to their success.
They are highly motivated independent thinkers who thrive when using concrete materials. This is especially true in mathematics when they "show what they know" when explaining their answers to their peers. Active learning stools allows them to activate their core without them even knowing it. My students feel like it's a special treat to sit on the active learning stools.
