My students are second graders at an inner-city public school in Ohio. My students are actively engaged in learning all day. I want to help my students to be active while helping others. We are going to participate in the UNICEF USA, Kid Power project. UNICEF USA says on their website... "we believe every child has the power to make a difference. When kids get active with UNICEF Kid Power, they unlock therapeutic food that UNICEF delivers to severely malnourished children. The more they move, the more lives they save."
All of the children receive free breakfast and lunch.
We are a wraparound school that tries to provide for all the needs of our students. It is important for our students to realize that there are others in the world that need their help to survive.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to participate in UNICEF Kid Power which provides food to hungry people all over the world. This program will also provide my students with much needed movement during the school day. Movement during the day burns all the excess energy that my students have bottled up. It helps them to focus on difficult tasks and have more fun in school. This will be something that we will do multiple times a day as a brain break. We will also be able to use the data gained from the trackers and from the website to practice our math skills. The students will feel very happy that while getting exercise and practicing math they are helping to feed people all over the world!
