This is my 23rd year to teach and I have multiple students that are in constant motion. In the spring of their Kindergarten year, Covid hit and they have yet to have a "normal" school year to date.
I have a classroom full of energetic 2nd graders and we have established a community that encourages them to learn, take risk and make mistakes.
I have a student that began his life on the streets with his biological mother and now lives with his grandmother. Another student is one of 5 children of a single mother. Coming to school is not at the top of their list. Several students have a tough time throughout the day being able stay on task and not lose their ability to focus. The pandemic has taken many opportunities from so many kiddos. Sometimes school is the last thing on their minds. If they are able to move and get their little bodies in motion...their minds can focus on learning. The last few years with the pandemic has impacted their ability to focus and learn. Especially those kiddos with ADHD.
The Smith System Oodles Active Seat will give several of my students the ability to move, wiggle and incorporate motion into their learning. The seats will help bring focus for many kiddos that struggle just to be at school. I have tried wiggled seats which work for some students. There are some students that need another option. I don't have that to offer. According to Smith Systems website, research proves that children need to move. When students move in any way it increases blood flow to the brain and oxygen levels. Their minds are able to stay focused and complete task at hand.
