Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I work with are friendly, creative, and full of energy. Nevertheless, they have a hard time managing their energy and emotions. I work at a school where over half the students receive free or reduced-cost meals. They have varied backgrounds and include immigrants from many countries, families who have been in the U.S. for generations, and families who are members of the Coast Guard.
My students want to succeed even though they have challenges at home and in school that can make that difficult.
Being able to move in a safe way allows students to focus on their learning without disrupting others.
My Project
Flexible seating including wiggle seats and wobble chairs have been shown to be unobtrusive and effective tools to help students who can't stay still become focused in the classroom, participate more, and concentrate better on their learning. Each student will be able to choose whether a wiggle seat or a wobble chair is best for them, instead of only having the choice of an old stable hard chair.
