Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard-working. Every day they come into class ready and excited to learn. They put their best effort into all they do, despite the fact that learning is such a challenge for them. My students are substantially separate special education students. All students have Learning Disabilities, Communication Impairments, or Autism. These disabilities make learning difficult, but still, we work hard every day. The students in my class are asked to do the work of general education students plus the supplemental work that they need because of their disabilities and they are still some of the highest performing in the school on standardized tests and on classwork.
My Project
My students work hard to learn, but require a lot of movement to do so. Right now, our only options for movement breaks are taking a walk or doing a movement video, both which stop instruction.
With these materials, students can continue learning while moving their bodies.
Students will be able to bounce on the balance balls while standing at a stand-up desk. They can use the stepper while they sit and work. The smaller, handheld fidgets will be perfect for keeping their hands busy while they listen to read alouds and mini-lessons. If students simply need a break, they can go sit on the beanbag chair. These materials will help them stay focused throughout the day.
