Help me give my students five NeoRok Movement Stools and six replacement balls for existing ball chairs, as we expand flexible seating within the small class setting.
The students in my class are an amazing group of diverse learners who learn best in the small class setting. My class includes a combination of kindergarten and first-grade students. While each student in my care has individual academic and/or special needs, all students demonstrate significant difficulty maintaining attention throughout the day. Movement breaks are built into the small class program, as all students benefit from some form of movement while learning. Allowing time for movement in traditional chairs has been helpful, but can be very disruptive, at times. The goal of this project is to obtain five NeoRock stools as well as six replacement balls to replace damaged balls on our existing ball chairs. My goal is to is to continue on the path of creating a learning environment with flexible seating options for all students in my care. I love the idea of students having a choice of something "cool" to sit on while helping to promote intellectual curiosity and excitement for learning in the small class setting. Research suggests when students have opportunities to move during instructions, they are more open to learning. I have adopted the motto, "Move your body, grow your brain."
My Project
Children need to move. Flexible seating allows students to bounce, wobble, rock, lean or stand. It also helps to keep young minds more alert and focused. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their learning environment. The materials I have requested will tremendously enhance student learning, as it will provide my students with a choice of tools that allow for appropriate movement during learning activities. My project will make a difference because it will give my students what they need to feel empowered and successful in the small class setting.
