My Students
My kindergarten students come from Austin, and a majority of them are ESL students. They love learning and love to express themselves through art and play. They all come to school eager to learn and push themselves to their fullest potential when given the chance to gain full access. Many of my student are very tactile and experience learning through doing. Many of them coming in not knowing much English, but are all very bright, chatty, and excited about the world. They love hands on activities, and are very creative.
My Project
All students deserve to learn in an environment where they have some choice. The chair bands will give every student the opportunity to have a chair band on their chair. These chair bands give something for their legs to do, and help keep them focused on the task at hand. The portable desks will be used for students who want a private space to work away from their table in a nice comfortable way. The seating dots can be used for students who like using their chair but need something that lets them move back and fourth when their body gets frigidity. The flexible stools will be used for student who need sit at the computer space (where they do literacy and math), but need a little bit more of a movement range, as the whole stool is made to move.
The donations to this project will give my students the choice and independence to understand their body, what they need, and the opportunity to complete important work necessary for their academic success.
By having so many flexible seating options for my students, they will begin to understand their bodies, ways to gain control, and an understanding that learning is for everyone, some people just need different things. These tools will give them an outlet for energy while still being productive
