One of the six strategic directions of our district this year is “Deep Learning and Innovation.” With Deep Learning we, as individual teachers, will “create learning environments that empower students to own their learning so they find purpose, meaning, and joy in their education and excel in post-high school endeavors.”
The essence of our dance classes encourages the creativity of students and empowers them to develop their own dances based on the teacher’s guidelines.
The result of their creativity each semester is a major production open to the public which displays the twenty-six different dances created by various groups of students.
During class time students work in groups to develop their dance routines. Groups are both self-selected and teacher created. Since there are many groups working on different routines at the same time, the use of the speakers is crucial in allowing each group to hear their own music while practicing their choreography. These dedicated students are also rehearsing after school to work on and perfect their dances.
The headset microphone will allow students to hear the teacher’s instructions while music is playing. The teacher can show proper technique and choreography while speaking over the music. There is also a combo class of Dance Performance and Dance Composition where the microphone and speakers are of utmost importance.
You can see the joy in the students as they perform the dances they created for their peers, parents, and the community. Funding of the speakers and headset microphone will help students with focused practice during class time and allow everyone to easily hear the instructions over the music during the dance. Since the speakers and head/set microphone are not consumable, they may be used for many years to the benefit of a larger number of students.
