I have 41 awesome students, ranging in grade level from Kindergarten through 4th grade. I teach students who struggle with reading and need additional reading instruction. Often times the students who struggle to read also struggle to with organizing their materials and focusing on instruction.
Engaging core muscles while thinking is like Miracle Grow for the brain!
Wobble stools and wobble cushions are a great way to encourage students to use their core muscles. These specialized seats help students to move and get sensory input while still being able to focus on instruction during our reading time. We have a limited amount of time together each day, so I want to make the most of it.
Finally, I would love for my students to have a way to organize their materials while they are in my group. Seat back organizers allow students to have their materials close at hand, but out of the way to avoid being distracting. The more organized our materials are, the more efficiently our group will run.
My Project
Struggling readers who come to my class often struggle due to a lack of focus. They have a constant need for movement which does not always align well with classroom instruction in reading. I am asking for a few simple tools that will allow students to move without distracting others or themselves from reading.
I want my struggling readers to be able to engage their core muscles while they engage their brains.
Wiggle cushions will allow students to move in their seats while also being focused on instruction and their reading. For students who need even more movement or core engagement, wobble stools will allow just that.
