I am a Physical Therapist working in a low income, public preschool program. In our program there are 20 classrooms, many of which are considered to be high intensity. We have students with diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and developmental delays, who learn and play along with students without disabilities. With continued COVID-19 restrictions, our students face limitations of their exposure to different gross motor activities.
My Project
Our students often need movement breaks to help them get their bodies ready to learn. This equipment will provide options for our students to do different kinds of activities, like jumping on a trampoline to rev up their attention or yoga to help them calm their bodies. Balance options like the balance beam or stepping stones provide opportunities to problem solve while regulating their systems.
Games are always exciting for our students and help them learn turn taking and direction following.
The yoga spinner, exercise dice, and exercise cards will expose our students to different ways to move their bodies while playing games.
