Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My 2nd grade students... where should I begin? My students, first and foremost, are bright and eager learners. They come in every morning smiling, backpacks on, brains on, ready to go! I know I have to be ready to challenge them on multiple levels and that makes my work both satisfying and enjoyable.

My students are future artists, mathematicians, literary geniuses, scientists, actors and musicians and I work very hard to honor all facets of their learning.

My students have many interests that I want to support and nurture, interests that may not be supported in their home environments, for various reasons. For that reason, Donors Choose.org is an important resource to me, as a pedagogue , as well as my entire school community.

My Project

Technology is the future. For my students to be competitive in a world that is rapidly becoming dependent on technological advancements, they need the opportunity to interact with technology in a variety of ways.

My students will be able to work on coding and robotics with the Chromebooks I have requested, how exciting is that?!

Picture it...10 students working collaboratively in groups of 2 to create and write code for their lego robotics kits. I currently have 1 ancient desktop computer in my class, making it virtually impossible to work collaboratively, which is such an important aspect of the learning process. By acquiring Chromebooks, my students will be able to plan together, work together, and create together, bringing their lego robots to life and controlling their every move.

Coding is only one thing the Chromebooks will be useful for. We can also use them for reading. There are many online sites with leveled books that my students can enjoy, given the proper resources. Students learning English will also benefit from laptops that enable them access to websites that are geared toward teaching English. Really, the laptops can be infused in all aspects of learning... possibilities are endless! We need your help to make this dream a reality. The students in my school community don't have the advantages that students from more affluent communities have, but they have the drive and willingness to learn, they just need the resources. Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
