My Students

Reading is an everyday struggle for many of my students. I am trying to create an environment that is safe and comfortable for learning. My students need lots of movement, transitions, and activity breaks throughout the day. Alternative seating is very important for my students to be successful.

We are a high poverty school in the Midwest.

My students have behavioral, academic, and social challenges that prevent them from being in a conventional classroom setting. They have been placed in a Learning Lab classroom. We focus not only on academic achievement but also social skills.

My Project

My students need four comfortable chairs for reading and iPad activities. I use a Daily 5 system in my classroom. Students are rotating between different activities and need designated areas for reading to self, listening to reading, and partner reading. We also need a designated area for using iPads during math centers and science.

My students seem to focus better when they can move away from the group, curl up with a good book, and lose themselves in the story.

Having comfortable, alternative seating will help my students feel safe and more at home in the classroom.
