My Students

My 43 Chinese Dual Immersion students are generally hard working and want to do well in all their work. Because of the nature of their program, I have many students who deal with anxiety. Some are anxious because they look around and see the great work around them and feel the lack, some because of diagnosed health problems, and some because they are kids and need more movement.

My Project

Feeling drowsy? Feeling uninspired? Feeling anxious? Come and bounce for a minute and get your brain kicked back into gear! Currently, I have 6 weighted yoga balls for class time. My students have to wait for their turn - which only comes around 1 day a week. Imagine you are looking forward to your next 6 hour road trip sitting in a hard chair! Contrast that with being able to move around and shift your position regularly (without being crowded by car parts).

Yoga balls help students with anxiety, focus issues, as well as difficulty in problem based learning.

Research shows that when students' sensory needs are being met with a Yoga ball, academic performance improves. Flexible seating allows more students to make the choices that work best for them. My students who sit on the weighted Yoga ball tend to wander less around the classroom, disturb others less, and focus more time on work.
