This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 2nd graders. They attend an urban school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. The students come from many different backgrounds, cultures, and face many different challenges in their day to day lives.
There are many single income families; families that are receiving assistance in one form or another, and families that are or were homeless at one time.
Regardless of the challenges these students face, they always come to school with smiles on their faces. They are eager to learn and when given an even playing field, they are capable of great things! I want to help even the field for them and their education.
My Project
I would like to request fidget bands and fidget toys for my students to use throughout the day. Many of my students have issues with attention and sitting for long periods of time is very difficult for them. I would like fidget bands so they are able to move their feet and get some energy out while still in their seats. The fidget toys will keep the hands busy while their ears are listening to directions so they are able to focus and stay on task.
Many of my students also need ways to help them relax and cope with the stresses of all that is asked of them in today's education.
I am asking for stress balls and stress relaxing toys to help them release their built up feelings and focus on the day. The school has changed so much over the years; there is much more expected of students at such a young age. It is hard to see them trying to sit and focus and work for longer periods of time. The materials I requested will make this easier for them.
