This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low income school, the students I work with on a daily basis face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am constantly looking for ways to provide them with authentic learning experiences in the classroom. The students in our school aren't always provided the same opportunities as other peers their age.
I may not be able to control the hand that life has dealt them, but I can control their learning experiences in the classroom.
My students have inquiring minds about the world around them and many of the topics we learn about in class. I try to find innovative ways to keep them inspired and motivated to learn day in and day out.
My Project
My students benefit from being able To have flexibility in their workspace areas. Currently, our classroom is limited on seating options for students. When students are able to work in areas of their choosing, they are more apt to complete their work, and it reduces the anxiety and restlessness some students feel working in a traditional seating arrangement. These materials would provide my students with more options than just sitting at their desk or on the floor, as I am limited on the number of other seating options in my classroom currently. By adding these seating options, more students will be allowed a choice in their learning environment.
