I teach a fun-loving group of first graders! They are mainly from low-income family situations, struggles at home, and sometimes fluctuating between places to live. I have a very diverse group that work together to support each other and themselves. They are motivated to learn and enjoying discovering new things!
It is an exciting year in our room and we are working towards becoming model second graders for next year!
Our moto in our room is "We're role models for kindergartners and fourth graders!".
My Project
In my classroom, I have many active students who need something to do to get their 'wiggles' out. These materials will be used to allow students to use their hands, kick their legs, and wobble at their seat without distracting anyone else. My first graders are smart and energetic, but it is difficult for some of their little bodies to stay focused on what we're learning if they don't have a way to express their energy.
Students will be able to use these materials as learning tools, not toys.
The timers will be used to assist students who need to take a break by allowing their attention to be focused on something calming. The fidget tools will be used to give students the option to use their hands without distracting other students. The flipbook will assist my students on the Autism Spectrum to communicate when they struggle to find the words. The active wobble chairs will also be used by students on the Spectrum and also students with ADHD to move at their seats and continue learning. The bounce bands will be used by any student who will be more successful if they have something under their seat that will move their feet, but not be seen or heard by other students who are learning.
These tools will greatly impact my students and their ability to focus. Many teachers in my building use tools like this; however, being a newer teacher, I am still building my collection of student success tools! Thank you for your consideration to help my kiddos!
