Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I School in an city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse and at risk readers,. Many are also homeless and from low income households. However, they are warm, loving and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 17 years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
My students need a keyboard, digital pen and mouse as they read financial literacy articles, and participate in accountable discussions in the school library. Students will be required to identify products from a public company in their every day lives and research the company as an investment. Scholars will invest $50,000 in their company. Children will look up, chart and graph the company's share price daily in their graphing notebooks in direct relation to political events and company and industry news. They will understand the investment fluctuation in relation to what is happening in the company and world. After several months, children will present a financial literacy showcase to the learning community. They will be required to create a technology piece and have an interactive display, thus aligning with the Common Core Learning Standards. Financial savvy scholars empower the American economy and become solid, contributing citizens.
