The sparkle in the eyes of my students is always memorable as they step on and off a concert stage or on the field at halftime. This energy fuels a passion of self growth and pride that transcends being in a music class. Music touches their lives in so many remarkable ways and empowers kids in all areas!
The students at my school are very ethnically diverse and most are not wealthy.
Many cannot even afford the music folder (flip folder). We are so fortunate to have a few instruments to give to students who are not able to rent. Many of our students are from low-income families, and providing them with an opportunity to become part of our band family and learn the lessons that come from working hard within a group and stimulating their brain through the fine motor and gross motor skills in music will change their lives! The students at my school are hardworking and dedicated. They lack financial resources at home, but they are exceeding enrollment expectations at school.
My Project
My band students work hard to play their best, but some of our school equipment is old and prohibits them from achieving at the highest level! Our tuba and euphonium students all use school-owned instruments, and each student is given one mouthpiece to play their instrument.
Several of our current mouthpieces that the students have to play on are almost two decades old!
They are dented and have become worn after many years of marching band and other high school activities. It would be a tremendous help to update this for our students!
