My students are amazing, hard-working individuals who thrive to be the very best they can be. They come from many different financial backgrounds. While some students' families can afford private lessons and accessories, others give it their all every day with what can be given to them through school and outside resources.
There is never a dull day in our class.
Everyday they show up with a smile ready to play, even though they do not have the necessary equipment to play their instrument properly.
My Project
As our program continues to grow we are having to pull out older instruments so every child has one to play. Several of the mouthpieces are missing from these older instruments and we don't have enough neck straps for our saxophone players. In our younger band, we have three baritone saxophone players, however, only one has a harness strap.
A few of our students are sharing neck straps and mouthpieces between the two classes.
Although we sanitize our mouthpieces, it would be better for every student to have their own, especially as the weather starts changing and students get sick. A few students have bought their own mouthpiece and neck straps but we still need a few more for every student.
