As an Industrial Technology teacher at Ponchatoula High School in Louisiana, I teach a variety of technology education course, such as Woodworking, Welding, and a Tech Ed elective class. Currently, I am in the process of making curriculum changes and adding a modular technology education laboratory to give my students a wider variety of opportunities in the workplace, while focusing on more math and science skills, including problem-solving activities.
The mouse-trap car technology addresses the National Standards for Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology. Since I am an Industrial Technology Education Association member, I know haw relevant the ITEA National Standards are to my lab environment.
The mouse-trap vehicle project follows the "STEM" curriculum of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The study of friction is an essential component of the design process. Inertia, force, and acceleration are studied involving Newton's First Law: The Law of Motion using mass and weight. Newton's Second Law of Motion is used with this project also by relating force, mass, and acceleration.
Because the comprehensive curriculum requires learning and application across the curriculum, the mouse-trap project is an excellent means for incorporating math and science skills in technology education.
My new lab can accommodate 16 students, and most of my classes have over 20 students. So, I am requesting the Mousetrap Vehicle Curriculum with kits so that I can add a new module to my curriculum, and I could also do whole-class discovery day activities with the materials.
The items I want to order are very user-friendly, hands-on, simple to integrate into the curriculum, and affordable.
