This could be the project that inspires a 7th grader to become an engineer! How incredible would that be?!
My 7th grade students are bright, creative and interested in exploring their ideas through hands on science investigations.
Our school is in north Seattle and has a diverse group of wonderful students. I keep my lessons engaging and my expectations high.
My Project
My students will be challenged to redesign a mouse trap car that goes further or faster than a design presented in class. In order to build their own car they need tools like a drill, small hand saw, hot glue gun and materials like mouse traps, wooden dowels, string and glue. Students will be encouraged to design, test, refine, and rebuild their cars throughout the unit as their understanding of forces and motion increases.
One of the biggest challenges facing my students is preparing for tomorrow's STEM careers.
Going through the engineering process of designing, building and testing a prototype allows them to realize how great a career in science and engineering would be!
