Help me give my students books for our book club, envelopes to keep important papers safe all the way home, and pencil grips and sensory toys to help students focus.
My students are amazing 7 and 8-year-olds who are excited about learning. They love to participate in discussions about every subject and their brains are like sponges. Our school is located in a rural farming community.
Creativity and love of learning are nurtured throughout our school day.
My students cannot get enough of problem-based, real-world, hands-on learning. They are eager to work together to find solutions and discuss new ideas. I love teaching these creative, ready to learn, marvelous kids!
My Project
I am an advocate for literacy. I feel that it is my privilege to inspire students to love to read. I need to get amazing books in students' hands to accomplish this goal. I want each student to have their copy to enjoy at their own pace. While reading each book students will learn vocabulary words and learn comprehension strategies, but most important students will share the excitement of reading a great book with their classmates. I love the discussions that students have when they are reading a book that invokes deep thought. We learn about history, cultures, and empathy when we connect with characters in a book.
Esperanza Rising, The Tale of Despereaux, and Fish in a Tree are adventurous tales that allow imagination to run wild.
Books let us explore new worlds. These books will be shared with other second grade classes at my school so they too can experience the adventures that books bring to life. I want to encourage a love of writing that parallels the love of reading. I will let students use the pencil grips for comfortable writing and reward effort with the sensory toys.
