Help me give my students motivation to complete the difficult task of reading by making it fun with an Instax Mini Instant camera, flashlights and flexible seating for the library.
I am a learning support teacher in an elementary school in a rural school district in PA. My classroom, on average, consists of 20 energetic children. The elementary school is considered a Title I school, which means that we have a high percentage of children from low-income families. My students are hardworking, driven children that want to explore and learn as much as possible. They are always asking higher order questions and striving find these answers for themselves!
The students are PROUD of the work they do and work hard toward obtaining goals every day.
Small town, doesn’t mean small will or hearts. These children give 110% everyday day.
My Project
My project consists of tools that will make my classroom a place kids come to find the tools they need to achieve their goals. The superheroes in my class have been identified as having a learning disability, which means that the already difficult task of learning how to read is much more difficult for them.
There are road blocks and obstacles that they need to overcome to accomplish their goals and I am developing a classroom full of tools to help them meet these goals!
Sitting dots will allow kids to 'tap out' words with their entire bodies; the inflatable pool floats will provide comfortable chairs in our classroom library to sit and relax; mini- flashlights will change the atmosphere by giving the kids a chance to read in the dark; a Mini Instant Film will help me showcase kids meeting their reading goals and working hard in class.
My students work hard everyday and I am always looking for ways to encourage them to practice and strive to learn more. I am excited to add these tools to our toolbox of learning.
