motivational materials for students with special needs
My students need motivational materials, such as games and electronic activities, and stampers to encourage them to acquire skills they will need to continue their education.
Do you remember classmates in your school days who never seemed to have the interest or abilities that most everyone else had? What happened to them after your time together? Today we want to prepare ALL students, no matter their apparent capabilities, for a successful life in the work world.
My students attend a public elementary school.
Many of them do not have the home background that provides them with the basic things children need to be successful in today's world. Many times they lack the motivation to keep trying since in the past they have met with failure and disappointment. They need to have "fun" learning to want to continue working hard. This is an identified 'poverty area' where a high percentage of our students are on free or reduced price lunches and breakfasts. We know that what happens in our building may be the best that happens to our children during their day. Having new games and activities goes a long way to brightening up their day (and also their teacher's day!!) After the storm many students lost what little they did have. What ever we receive will be greatly appreciated for years to come!!
My Project
I am requesting games and electronic devices to motivate and encourage elementary special needs students to become involved and excited to acquire more skills in reading, math, and written language. All my students have an IEP (individual education plan) and have struggled to learn skills in the regular classroom. Following regular class instruction these students are now attending some daily class time in the resource room. Many of our materials are extremely old and discards from other classrooms. They have not been replaced due to lack of funding for many years. What a wonderful 'gift' for them to receive new things instead of always getting 'hand-me-downs'. Anything will be greatly appreciated and used for many years to come.
I want my students to be anxious to get to the resource room and get started every day on new and challenging activities to improve their basic skills in reading, math, and written language.
The story and paragraph activities are an example of small items that can make a huge difference in a child just wanting to write something down on paper - something many of my children don't want to do.
