My students are troubled young men who come from some of the most impoverished neighborhoods in Las Vegas. Many of them are struggling readers who cannot find books or stories that interest or speak to them amongst the standard canon of literature.
With the education issues of 2020, many of my students felt lost and forgotten by their regular school and society as a whole.
These students are troubled, but with care and education that includes them and their speed of learning level, they have great potential.
My Project
My students walk into my classroom daily feeling depressed with the walls of my room. I was not able to get my first room until the end of 2021 and I now have a room that is missing any type of decor that helps support the learning that I am trying to encourage.
I have been asked why my walls are so bare, and I have no reason besides budget.
Even I cannot stand to use that excuse. These decorative items will help to make my room less of a depressant and more a place where students can find motivation.
