Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in the southwest of Houston near Brays Bayou, last year many students' homes were severely affected by the Hurricane Harvey. They are nevertheless resilient and hardworking, creative and talented.
About 88% of students receives free-and-reduced price lunch, 68% are English Language Learners (ELL) — newcomers to this country.
Some of my students speak no English at all. Their home languages include Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Igbo, Kirundi, Farsi, Urdu and Cantonese/Mandarin. But I hope to provide them with the best support that I can give and the opportunity to explore technology-based learning and enrichment.
As their math teacher with diverse students, my goal is personalize learning to this diverse cohort.
My Project
help me to provide my students with the board games for me to reward students who show improvement and interest in their learning.
Intellectual games can help students to develop their brain and board game set will allow students to have the motivation to behave better and study harder for the reward.
The flexible seating ball helps to create a recreational classroom; the classical "connect the 4 game" will help the student to develop geometrical reasoning, Apple to apples as well as Taboo helps ESL students to develop language ability. Jenga helps the kinesthetic learners to develop hands-on ability and acumen. I realize many students who have disadvantage situation at home are never exposed to these traditional games, and i hope to expose them to these as well as use these as motivational rewards for students to work harder.
