Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the best and only deserve the best! I teach in a K-6 Elementary School in the San Francisco Bay Area. I serve special education students with mild/moderate disabilities ranging from a specific learning disability to autism. Their disabilities require specific resources that the school cannot provide to them due to a lack of funding. I love that my students are hard-working, resilient and eager to learn. With the right resources, they can truly grow to reach their potential.
My Project
In order to motivate my young readers, I need to have books at their reading levels that will interest them. By having a leveled library, they will have access to books that they can read independently and that will challenge them.
With a limited library of books, the students have to read the same books over-and-over.
In order to keep my struggling readers motivated and to help them make progress, I need to have more books to offer them. I service students from grades K-6 which is a challenge for me to have enough books at all their levels for them to read.
We read in my classroom daily, and my students are very excited when a new book is introduced to the library. These books would be used for independent reading, shared reading, and guided reading.
