Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am teaching 3rd grade again this year with 22 students, and 30 3rd graders during our small group reading time. I love teaching my students and hope that I am "the" teacher that gets visits from former students". I love reading! I hope to help each one of my students find their love of reading in every subject we study. The range of learners I have are anywhere from 1st grade up to 4th grade.
The classroom I am teaching in needs love and reading resources.
The school is a Title I school and has over half of the students who receive free lunch. Over a third of my students are English Language Learners or very low in language.
My Project
I would love to have a Microsoft Surface Go to help my students learn to read, read to learn, practice language, and learn math online or with specific websites/apps. One of my main goals is to increase fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Some of my students are still learning the skills for how to decode and encode words to build their phonics and sight words. Other students are reading to learn and building their reading fluency.
Technology is very successful instructional tool to help students learn to read and read to learn, because it helps build their intrinsic motivation.
This will help my students read and build a love of reading.
If this is granted, I plan on using specific online websites/apps to meet the needs of my students. MobyMax math and language, Math Playground, RAZ kids, EPIC, starfall, vocab city, and typing their papers using Google sheets are a few online resources I would utilize in my students’ journey to success. These apps include fiction and non-fiction leveled reading books and various skills practice.
In addition, there are websites/ apps to record their reading so they can hear what they sound like and build metacognition. Some of these apps track my students’ progress so I can share results with their families.
My overall goal is for my students to increase their word reading enough to help them understand what they are reading, become a better reader, feel successful, and have a love of reading in any academic area of study! Thank you for your time!
