My Students

Imagine how fun it would be to write a story about a cheetah on a bright yellow index card. Imagine how fun it would be to practice writing spelling words on sticky notes posted around the classroom.

My third graders need a lot of motivation to write.

Some see writing as something they just have to do and do not see the enjoyment that can come from writing. My students need encouragement to view writing as something that they can enjoy, not something they have to do because their teacher told them too.

My Project

These fun and colorful sticky notes and index cards will help to motivate my students to write. Being able to pick the color they would like to use will increase their desire to write. The sticky notes will help students organize their thoughts before they begin to write paragraphs. Then the students will be able to write rough drafts on the index cards. The students will also use the sticky notes to write to friends after proofreading a piece of writing.

These sticky notes and index cards will create great writers.

With these supplies students will be able to enjoy writing and make writing a part of their everyday lives. The students will be encouraged to write and will take this skill with them as they move through their lives and school careers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
