Our rural K-12 school has just opened a Makerspace (STEAM) room for our students to exercise their critical thinking skills and creativity. Students light up when they hear about a trip into that room. Not only are they excited for their own discoveries, they seem more excited for the creations of others.
Our small title I school houses some of the most curious minds in our area.
Although student feel this is a "fun time", the STEAM room allows their minds to run wild. Some of the ideas we have seen and heard in this room over the short month it has been open are truly remarkable. These experiences have allowed us to see into the minds of some of the most introverted students. They feel "in their element" and the sense of community among all students is second to none.
My Project
Our rural K-12 school has just opened a Makerspace (STEAM) room for our kids to exercise their critical thinking skills and creativity. This room has readily-available materials for students to experiment with and create things nobody has ever thought of. Some of the jobs our younger students are going to end up competing for have yet be created. Students must be developed thinkers to compete in an unfamiliar future landscape.
There is no limit to where motivated learners can go.
To spur motivation in out STEAM room, we would like to provide our students with as many experiences with technology as possible. We have a wide variety of technological tools in the room our students are already engaged with, but the iPads our school currently possess are at the end of their life. Unfortunately, this means our current devices are no longer compatible with our coding technology devices. These devices are used in a variety of ways across all subjects. We greatly appreciate your consideration in helping us provide the best possible learning environment for our students!
