My students need a wide variety of audio books, including Maniac Magee, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and The Tale of Despereaux, to encourage the love of reading.
Have you ever lacked motivation to do something? Have you ever struggled with reading a book? While that's my class! I have a class full of wonderful students who need that little something extra to motivate them to read. I need that something extra for my students to become successful readers!
I'm a fourth grade inclusion teacher at a small elementary school in North Carolina.
My current class has twenty-four students, 14 boys and 10 girls. Many of my students are from military families and come from all over the country/world. In my classroom, I currently have 5 students who have a learning disability, along with many students on..at..or above grade level.
In addition, I have students who lack motivation and encouragement to read. As you can see, I have a very unique group of students, who want to be successful, but need that something extra.
My Project
My students take part in several reading activities daily and weekly. Three days a week students take part in guided reading, with me or the Title One teacher. Students read independently daily for 30 minutes, in what we call AR time. I also read daily for 10 minutes from the class novel. Lastly, students will soon be grouped for buddy reading/novel studies.
In my classroom, we have a lot of activities and time devoted to reading skills. But some of my students still struggle with reading, may it be from motivation or focusing. We have just received five new CD players in thanks to donors like yourself. We have also just received several audio books.
However, I'm happy to report that it will not take long for my students to run out of selections. So, I'm writing this grant to ask for several more audio books including Maniac Magee, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and The Tale of Despereaux, to get my classroom collection in full swing.
Please help our class get several more audio books.
I'm extremely confident my students will be motivated and focused to read and what better way to learn to read, than to be engaged in a great novel.
