Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students come from families that experience significant hardships. They come to school with very real challenges and as a result being at school is often something that is not seen as enjoyable.

As their teacher I feel it is my responsibility to help them develop a new way of thinking about school.

In order to combat these challenges, I have focused on helping the students develop a growth mindset and understanding internal and external motivation.

My Project

COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of my students in so many ways! It has been challenging as a teacher to keep students focused and positive about their learning experiences.

To encourage this motivation to learn, we need to make the classroom one that runs well and makes learning engaging.

Kids who are engaged in learning are more likely to participate in class, which means better attendance and better grades.

By using math manipulatives I can help students understand difficult mathematical concepts, helping them feel more successful. Organizing the classroom so that it runs smoothly, will give me more time to focus on the students. Using small prizes and incentives for external motivation will encourage students to work hard every day.
