Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? A review of student grades and school-wide data indicate that students with disabilities are the lowest performing sub-group at our school.
The students in my classroom are students with learning and emotional disabilities.
Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. My classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, attention deficit disorder, specific learning disabilities and dyslexia. The typical student in my class reads at a first to second grade level and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense. 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent in all my students. Technology is a major motivator for most of my students.
My Project
My students are all different levels in reading and math. The Chromebooks I am requesting will allow each one of my students to practice reading and math at their own levels and at their own pace.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students self esteem and will make them more successful students and motivated to learn.
My special education students deserve to the have the opportunity to achieve to their full potential through the use of technology. By using the Chromebooks they will be able to learn at their own pace and on their own level and interests. Thank you for making this possible.
