Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students are in need of motivational materials to encourage them to continue advancing in literacy and research skills according to Common Core in the School Library Program.
The students are from a low income urban school is Paterson, NJ who are in need of motivational materials and high interest books to motivate even the most uninterested potential readers.
The students do not have many resources readily available so even items such as fun erasers, book marks, and high interest books motivate them to do better both in the library and in the classroom.
My Project
The School Library Media Specialist will use the small items, book mark smiley clips, smiley face neon eraser caps, and fun colored pencils in the form of motivational prizes as a tool to to motivate and excite the students to learn research skills according to the library curriculum and excite them about using the library. The students will also have the opportunity to borrow and take home popular books that are of high interest to all of the students of the target grade level. The Big Nate series, Squish series, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series are specifically requested as a way to encourage and foster Thier reading development.
One of the school's goals is to increase student literacy.
This project will enable the School Library Media Specialist to motivate the students to learn about research skills which are essential for the PARCC Assessment and Common Core and encourage them to borrow high interest books to help increase overall student literacy.
